At the start of each year, many agencies send their PCs for inspection and standardization. Choosing a shop that properly configures software and security is more important than just "reinstalling Windows."

You can quickly check past work: right-click a file and see if a genuine antivirus scan option appears. If it's missing, your machine might not be protected as promised.

BitLocker and drive encryption are powerful but dangerous when misused. We often see devices locked by unknown keys due to rushed setups. At MetroBang we either configure it correctly or disable it safely and rely on proper antivirus instead.

Before handing over a Windows 11 PC we always verify three basics: encryption state, genuine antivirus, and complete office tooling. Dropping a half-configured PC on the customer is not how we work.

Avast, a leading antivirus and computer security company, has published research on flashlight applications for Android available in the Play Store. The study found that out of over 900 flashlight apps, 77 apps requested more than 50 permissions, with each app having over 100,000 downloads combined.

Researchers have not confirmed whether these applications are malware, as no suspicious behavior has been detected yet. Google Play Store already has systems to filter dangerous apps. However, the excessive permission requests such as phone calls, SMS sending/receiving, location access, or downloading files without user permission raise concerns that developers may use this data without authorization, putting users at risk of data leakage.

Recommendation: Before downloading, users should check the mobile access permissions of various apps. If requests exceed what's necessary, as in this case, there is a risk to your personal data on your mobile device.
